Year One

Year one of my Media Production degree was aimed at giving us a taster of a range of different mediums so we had 7 modules split over 6 months and below is a summary of what I created.

Digital Media

The Digital Media module in my first year at university was familiarising ourselves with software such as Adobe Photoshop and AfterEffects to create 2, 20 second, opening title sequences. Both animations were for the same title of film but different genres. The first being for an action film…

The second of my title sequences was for a romantic comedy film…

Single Camera/Scriptwriting

For this module we had to write a script for a short 5 minute long film looking in depth at character development. We were only allowed to have one main character and they had to evolve through the piece. The next part of the module was to get into a group and film/edit one of the scripts. I was the editor in my group (meaning I was able to use Adobe Premier pro) and below is the the final product…

Multicamera

This module taught me how to work in a TV studio with more then one camera and the different roles necessary for a live broadcast to be recorded. We had a series of workshops culminating in a 10 minute live programme in which I was vision mixer. Over the workshops however I worked on every of production from sound and set design to presenting and directing.

Photography

The photography module was split into a few different briefs. The first being to take photos of the ‘natural alphabet’ where we had to spell our name out using letters created from nature or items we didn’t have any control over, for example a tree or building from a certain angle. The second task was to research a current photographer and recreate some of their work. I was inspired by a photographer called “Denis Darzacq” who would use a fast shutter speed to make his subjects appear to be flying. Find below a link to the album I created for this task on ‘flickr’.

The final assignment was to take a number of photos based on environment. My concept for this was to give an inanimate object a human persona so I bought a stuffed animal and made it seem as though it was living its life like a human being. Again the link to the ‘Flickr’ account below.

Radio

Radio module involved a soundscape and a 30 minute live show. The soundscape was 3 minutes long and based on the Olympics, representing what we thought the Olympics would be like both in terms of atmosphere and to compete in the 100 metres final. The 30 minute live show was created in a much bigger group and was based on entertainment in and around the Lincoln area called ‘The Entertainment Linc’. We recorded features for the Lincolnshire Christmas Market, the local music scene and the latest films out in cinema at that time. My experiences of working in a radio studio built on what I had already picked up from my time at the BBC.

Design

The design module was looking at print based design and how to create aesthetically pleasing images and project files. It was in this module where I was able to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign in order to create an 8 page file on a topic of my choosing.
