Year Two

After the first year, where we experienced a variety of different mediums, we had to specialise in 2. I chose to take Digital Media and Film Production (single camera from the previous year).

Digital Media

This module was split into 2 terms. The first being a crash course in 2D, 3D and interactive media which culminated in a project involving all three aspects. For this I created the concept of a children’s toy which can be thrown about, reshaped and stuck to surfaced. For the video I used 3D modelling software (MAYA) to create the toy and then incorporated into live action with the inclusion of 2D animation creating set extenstion and editing. The final video was then housed in an online, offline website which I coded from scratch. Below is the final video and website designs.

The second term’s project was based around the brief of “evolution and revolution”. We were able to create whatever we wanted to in order to express our research and my project was based around a gym application aimed to help people ‘evolve’ themselves. Originally the plan was to create the application but in the end I decided to design it and create an advert showing the features of the application. Similarly to the ‘Fibble’ assignment I also created an offline website, again showing the features. Below are the final results…

Film Production

This module was also split up but into three. The first being an experimental film where we chose to base ours around phobias so we wanted to capture everything we thought people find scary. This involved us filming clowns, spiders, heights, darkness, woods and the unknown to name a few. My role in this production was as camera operator in which I was in charge of using a Panasonic 71E. The film had to be 3 minutes and below is the end product…

The second project was to create a 10 minute documentary about a topic of our choice. We decided to look into handball as a sport and to see what effect the Olympics had on it and if the future looked positive or not. I enjoyed making this film and as editor I found myself with the important job of creating the structure as well as editing together the opening minute of secondary footage which I am particularly pleased with. See below the final draft of it…

Finally we had 3 months to write a script and then film a 10 minute fiction piece. My role for this was director and below is the film (apologies for the ‘Bips and Bars’ at the start…
